Resetting the LIFX+ LED Smart Light

Post Type: Reset

There are a few reasons that you might want to perform a reset on a home automation device. In the case of the LIFX+ Smart Light, the device is initially setup by connecting to its built-in wifi network. If you purchased a used device, it may still be paired with another network. If you changed your network without updating your device, you may know longer be able to access it. Basically if for any reason, you are having difficulty with your device, a hardware reset is probably the first place to start.

How to reset the LIFX+ smart lamp

  1. Start by turning the lamp on. If you cannot currently connect to the lamp via the app, you can use local override by turning the power switch off, then back on. The lamp should light using whatever settings were last in effect.
  2. Now power cycle the lamp five times using the power switch.
  3. The lamp should now flash Red, Green, Blue, then off for a few seconds, then settle on White.
  4. The lamp should now show up in your list of available wifi networks. You can proceed with the setup procedure to add it to your home automation system.

The reset procedure described above applies to the LIFX+ Gen 3 lamp with night vision. According to the LIFX website, the only difference between this lamp and the LIFX Color 1000 lamp is the brief time that the Gen 3 lamp shuts off before settling on white.

The same basic procedure also applies to the LIFX White lamps except that after power cycling, the lamp will flash dim/very warm white, medium/warm white, and then bright cool white.

The original LIFX lamp has a physical reset switch. Please refer to the LIFX website for information regarding this lamp.
